RunnerFriendly is a stealth community service volunteer project. It requires no extra time, effort or money, but it can make a big difference if you practice it regularly.
The RunnerFriendly approach is simple: take a bag with you on your run or walk, and pick up litter you encounter along the way. You don't need to pick it all up. You can run right past much of it if you want. This is voluntary, after all.
The point is simply to remove some of the litter from the environment and dispose of it properly. You could even pick up a little bit each time you run, and over time you will have cleared most of it away. Or maybe more than one runner following the same route could each pick up a little, and together you will be successful.
Runners (and walkers) are excellent advocates for a cleaner planet, since we spend so much time in touch with the ground, the earth, our environment.
Some of us run (or walk) in the woods, some on trails in town, and some on the streets and sidewalks. Each of us comes across litter and trash at one time or another. Some of us see a lot, every day. Some see just a speck here and there. Which means we can all make a difference.
Easy Environmentalism As you run, be aware of your environment. If you see a piece of trash, pick it up and throw it away. "See it... Gone."
The satisfaction of knowing that you've made a difference, even a small difference, is a strong reward for that effort. Knowing that you've made the world just a little bit more beautiful - that your environment, your neighborhood, is less littered and you are growing healthier- is a great feeling.
These days, more of us are thinking about volunteerism, and community service. Government programs and services are facing huge budget cuts, charities are losing funding as fewer people are donating, and we're all holding on to our jobs as best we can to make sure the bills get paid. Who has time to volunteer? Our schedules are already full.
Runner Friendly: Try it just this once, or do it every day as part of your regular routine.
The entire process involves a decision on your part to pick up some litter; maybe all that you see, maybe just a little. It might happen once a day, once a week, once a month, or just once. However much you decide to do, it will make a positive impact on your community. And probably on you too. It's surprising how good it feels to be helpful.
Thanks for taking the time to visit RunnerFriendly.com. I hope you're moved to action, and that you will share this website with friends and family. I like to say that if we all do a little bit, it'll all get done.
